Lesson 1 of 37 min
Tamil word order
Subject, object, verb
English says I read a book. Tamil says I book read - the verb comes last. Once you expect the verb at the end, Tamil sentences become much easier to follow.
நான் புத்தகம் படிக்கிறேன்.
naan puththagam padikkiren - I read a book.
Tamil marks each word's job with an ending rather than with its position, so word order can flex. The verb, though, almost always stays at the end.
